Wet Tennessee red clay soil beside a properly compacted crushed gravel base

Why prep matters here

East Tennessee red clay holds water — and moves

When this clay gets wet it swells and turns soft. When it dries it shrinks. Concrete poured straight over it sits on ground that never stops moving — and concrete doesn't bend. It cracks.

That's why the base is the real job on every pour we do: excavation to grade, a compacted gravel base, drainage planned so water sheds away, concrete to spec thickness, and joints placed so cracking happens where we planned — not across the middle of your driveway.

Straight answers

The questions homeowners actually ask us — answered the way we'd answer at your kitchen table.

Do the owners actually show up, or a salesman?

The owners. Devin and Davy quote the job themselves at your property, and one or both of us is on site for the pour. There's no salesman, no hand-off, and no crew you've never met showing up unannounced.

Do you use your own crew or subcontract the work out?

Our own crew, every job. Your project is never handed off to whoever's free that week. The people who quoted your job are the people running it.

How do you handle changes to the price once we start?

The written proposal defines the scope and the price. No change proceeds without your written approval. If something genuinely changes mid-job, we stop, explain it, and put the change in writing before any work on it continues.

How do you prep the base so the concrete doesn't crack?

East Tennessee red clay holds water and moves, so we treat the base as the real job. We excavate to grade, build a compacted gravel base, plan drainage so water sheds away from the slab, pour to spec thickness, and place control joints to manage the cracking that all concrete does — so it happens where we planned, not across the middle of your driveway.
